FlightView Launches Flight-In-Sight!

First-of-its-Kind Visual Gate Display Improves Airport Operations and Simplifies the Travel Experience by Showing Passengers Where Their Plane Is Located and When it Will Arrive

10/17/2011

BOSTON, MA (October 17, 2011) - FlightView, the leading provider of accurate and real-time flight information for airlines, airports, travelers and those picking them up, today launched Flight-In-Sight! - the industry's first ever gate display to visually show passengers where their plane is located when it's not at the end of the jetway.

"Understandably, travelers waiting at the gate want to know where their plane is, and if that information isn't readily available, frustration levels skyrocket and gate agents are bombarded," said Mike Benjamin, CEO of FlightView. "By showing the inbound aircraft and its route visually on a map, travelers can see for themselves exactly where their plane is located and anticipate when they're likely to board, easing the burden on airline staff."

According to a gate-side survey of travelers conducted by FlightView and released last week, 78 percent say the lack of timely and accurate flight information - especially when flights are delayed - is their number one annoyance when traveling. Making matters worse, the lack of information puts enormous stress on airline and airport staff and makes customer service incredibly inefficient as gate agents have to update travelers one-by-one at the airline gate counter.

The new Flight-In-Sight! gate display solves both of these problems - arming travelers with the flight information they need and reducing the burden placed on airport and airline staff. In addition to a visual display that shows an airplane's position and flight path, Flight-In-Sight! shows travelers the radar weather affecting their flights. Other information can also be showcased on Flight-In-Sight!, including departure and arrival times, time remaining and in-air stats like speed, altitude and aircraft type.

"What travelers want most is easy access to up-to-date flight information so that they can plan accordingly," said Benjamin. "Visual and informative displays - like what we've built with Flight-in-Sight! - will enhance an airline's customer service, improve gate agent efficiency and significantly reduce passenger frustration."

As consumer expectation for instant access to real-time travel information grows, today's travelers are demanding more self service options. The trend took hold in 2011, as airlines and airports moved quickly to implement mobile services like native apps, mobile websites and mobile boarding passes. In the year ahead, FlightView expects the wave of self-service technologies to continue, with even greater adoption of mobile websites and apps, and the rollout of more visual content for digital displays.

"With less demand placed on gate agents, the airline employees can more effectively do their jobs so that when the plane actually lands, the boarding and take-off process can be as quick and efficient as possible," said Benjamin.

FlightView will be demoing the new Flight-In-Sight! displays this week at the 2011 ACI-NA annual conference in San Diego, CA. Stop by booth #625 for more information.
