Holiday Travelers Rejoice - FlightView Helps Passengers Stay One Step Ahead of Delays

New airport delay status gives mobile users an early look at potentially disruptive airport delays and cancellations

12/18/2012

BOSTON (December 18, 2012) - As the holiday travel season heats up, FlightView is giving travelers the most comprehensive look into airport delays yet. FlightView's new airport delay content - now available on FlightView's mobile website and popular iPhone and Android flight tracking apps - offers travelers full transparency into real-time airport delay status and closures across the U.S. and Canada.

Specifically, the new 'Airport Delay' content enables travelers to:

  • Set expectations by helping users anticipate the effect of delays on inbound and outbound flights. Through visibility into the current status of North American airports - and the percentage of current arrivals and departures experiencing delays - travelers can foresee the direct, or trickledown, effect that airport delays will have on the status of their own flight.
  • Plan in advance based on the severity of arrival and departure delays. As delays and cancelations occur - airports are grouped into one of four categories based on the significance of delayed times, which include Closures, Major Departure Delays (greater than 45 minutes late), Departure Delays (less than 45 minutes late), and FAA Delay Programs.
  • Prepare for FAA delays. Active FAA Programs that impact arriving and departing flights are described in detail - giving passengers a head's up on potential flight delays before airlines offer an official notification.

"There are many variables in traveling that are simply outside of a passenger's control - and delays and cancelations top that list," said Mike Benjamin, CEO of FlightView. "By opening up all available information to travelers - some of that control goes back into their hands, empowering them to make decisions for a smoother travel experience."

The new airport delays content can be accessed on FlightView's mobile website and iPhone and Android travel apps. For more information about FlightView's mobile offerings visiting FlightView.com.
